A new, terrible pro-abortion bill was introduced in the U.S. Congress earlier this month with the misleading name, “Women’s Health Protection Act.” Tom McClusky, president of March for Life Action, told Catholic News Agency that the, “Misnamed Women’s Health Protection Act seeks to foist Congressional Democrats’ radical abortion agenda on the American public.”
According to McClusky, this proposed bill would, “Eliminate nearly all state laws that regulate abortion and force objecting hospitals and medical professionals to perform or participate in the life-ending procedure.”
Basically, this horrible bill it would not only nullify laws that regulate abortion in the states, but would not allow medical professionals or hospitals to opt out of performing procedures that clash with their morals.
Not only would it have these devastating effects, if passed, it would possibly do away with important pro-life legislation such as the Hyde Ammendment. What does any of this have to do with protecting womens’ health?
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, reiterated the fact that this bill is misnamed. In a statement, she called the bill, “egregious” and “deceptively named.” She explained that, “While most Americans want reasonable pro-life protections for unborn children, pro-abortion Democrats are moving swiftly in the opposite direction.”
This bill is not moderate or reasonable, it is radical, and would destroy any possibility of new pro-life laws being passed in the states.
Some lawmakers believe that the possibility of this bill being passed is, in fact, a response to the U.S. Supreme Court taking up the case of Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
While this bill has been introduced several times before, with pro-abortion majorities in the U.S. House and Senate as well as pro-abortion radical Joe Biden in the White House, it actually has the potential to make it through Congress and be signed into law. It is critical that we educate Americans on this deadly legislation.
Americans, even pro-choice Americans, want reasonable restrictions on abortions such as informed consent and parental involvement. A majority of the American people vehemently oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. The misnamed “Women’s Health Protection Act” goes against the will of the American people, both pro-life and pro-choice, when it comes to abortion. Most of all, it will exponentially increase the number of abortions in America. It is a devastating threat to preborn children and their mothers. It is up to the American people to speak out and defend their rights and the rights of the unborn.
