30th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade decision on January 22, 2003

We are now approaching the 30th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions the legalized abortion in the USA for all nine months of pregnancy.  Mounting evidence suggests that, in addition to denying the right to life of preborn children, this decision has also been very damaging for women. Many women are now revealing that they did not find abortion to be a choice, but rather something that was forced on them by threats of job loss, violence, divorce, etc.  Abortion did not free these women from a problem pregnancy, but instead trapped them in a life of regret that led to alcohol or drug abuse, dangerous behavior, and even thoughts of suicide.

Various events will be sponsored by Pro-Life supporters to reflect on these tragedies of the last 30 years, pray for restoration of respect for life, and protest the injustice of the Supreme Court decisions issued 30 years ago.  The most prominent of these events is the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on January 22nd. Hundreds of people from Illinois will be heading to Washington, D.C. to participate in the March for Life along with thousands from around the nation.   This March for Life is very likely to be the largest ever, easily reaching 250,000 people or more.  The March will proceed from the Washington Monument to the Supreme Court Building starting at 1:00pm after a rally that begins at Noon.

In Chicago, Cardinal Francis George will lead a Mass and prayer vigil at Queen of All Saints Basilica on January 18th.  Additionally, at least 50 parishes will hold prayer vigils that day.

Abortion has not improved life for American women and has resulted in the death of over 43 million children, leaving many families with lost brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren that they will never know.  It is time to restore the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that is promised in the Declaration of Independence.
